Upon returning to Labin he painted, worked with graphics, design, wall decorations and art equipment.

Here he became a member of Labinski Atelieri (The Labin Ateliers), participating in group exhibits in Labin and in numerous museum-gallery spaces throughout the Former Yugoslavia.

Since 1971 he has had more than 40 solo exhibits (Labin, Pula, Rovinj, Rijeka, Poreč, Torino, Imperia, Feltre, Kirchdorf, Imola, Reutte, Brač, Zagreb...) and over one hundred group exhibits in Croatia and abroad (Labin, Pula, Split, Rijeka, Zagreb, Dubrovnik, Novi Sad, Beograd, Udine, New York, Montevideo, Buenos Aires, San Paolo, Cako, Komodoro, Manzano, Vittorio Veneto, Leoben, Eisenstadt, Stuttgart, Beč, Trieste, Paris, Lisabon...). He has also participated in the work of more than 10 artist’s colonies in Croatia and abroad.

Since 1986 he has been active in organising exhibits, first in the RE Bar Gallery and later in part of his atelier. At the end of 1991 in collaboration with writer Danijel Načinović he produced a multimedia project titled CROATIA: SIGNAL ’92 which sold postcards with a painting by Vinko Šaina and a poem by Danijel Načinović and donated the proceeds to refugees.

From 1991 to 1993 he was involved in the extensive and demanding repair, reconstruction and restoration of the sacral object which was also a protected cultural monument of Labin, revitalised by a team of experts adhering to strict professional standards.

In the church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel he founded Galerija Alvona (the Alvona Gallery) and began intensive gallery work. Every year he organises and presents numerous solo and group exhibits following the most recent productions by Croatian and foreign artists in collaboration with renowned art historians and art critics including: Gorka Ostojić Cvajner, Ervin Dubrović, Boris Toman, Berislav Valušek, Mladen Lučić, Darko Glavan, Maja Briski as well as writers and poets including Danijel Načinović, Drago Orlić and others. Galerija Alvona’s significant projects equally present excellent photographers, translators and in addition to the author himself, renowned designers: Predrag Spasojević, Vesna Rožman, Alfio Klarić and others.
Vinko Šaina is a member of HDLU of Zagreb and HDLU of Istria (The Croatian Society of Painters).
Mr. Šaina was president of the HDLU of Istria in the period between 1996 and 1999 during which the Society achieved the most ambitious project and prepared its best catalogue of the society’s material.
Vinko Šaina’s works of art can be found in numerous museum-gallery institutions and private collections in Croatia and abroad.
He has been awarded numerous awards for his creative work.

In 2009, Croatian Television produced and filmed a documentary about his work, "Sliko-slikopisi Šaina" (Paintings-Painting Expression Šaina): "In a world where all criteria have been destroyed, one accident and one dream became the motivation for a life’s battle and artistic creation. For artist Vinko Šaina of Labin, this was catharsis which turned his own handicap into a harmony of positive thoughts and works in celebration of life, people and nature."
